You will hike 2-3 hours along the old Tokaido highway some on cobbled paths and some on forest trails between Hakone Yumoto and Lake Ashi. Some part of this path is off-the-beaten track and we normally have the forest for ourselves. This part of the Hachiri has the best preserved cobbled path and more primitive forests. You will hike past the wood crafting village of Hakone - Hatajuku and we skip the steepest part of the trail by bus and reach a teahouse that has a history of 400 years. After an energising amasake, we will continue our hike to Lake Ashi where if you are lucky, you can have a picture with Mt Fuji and the lake view. The Hakone checkpoint is our last stop where you will understand the significance of Hakone in the history of Japan. At the end of the tour, you can then catch a bus or a ferry (pirate ship) to your next destination at around 1pm.

The tour I‘m offering is basically for nature-loving guests. The guests will walk around relatively flat areas as opposed to hiking steep mountains, so the guests can spend more time in appreciating the nature of Hakone with a certified professional nature guide. The nature in Hakone is very unique in its creatures and geological aspects. The guests will meet wild plants of the season some of which are endemic only this part of Japan and the world. Also, the guests will spot resident and migratory wild birds, insects, local fish, and if lucky mammals such as weasels, deer, foxes, raccoon dogs, and so on. During the tour, the guests are suggested to use binoculars that the guide will bring for each guest during the tour as it is very handy to spot creatures and see far-off landscapes for the unique geological features of Hakone. The tour will stimulate your sense of wonder as the nature in Hakone is much different from whererver you come from. Let's enjoy the nature in Hakone together!

While many visitors race across Lake Ashi on a pirate ship or rush between ropeway stations, our shinrin-yoku (forest bathing) session invites you to do something radically different: STOP. We don't just walk through the forest; we immerse in it. Our sessions are held in secluded pockets of the lakeshore that most tourists don't see. Here, the only sounds are the gentle lapping of the water and the rustle of the trees. This isn't a hike; it's a chance to finally hear the silence that Hakone is famous for. What sets our tour apart is the intention behind every step. This isn't a guided nature walk where you're learning names of trees. It is a sensory re-calibration. I will guide you through a series of gentle, open-ended invitations that help you connect with the forest on a deeper level—feeling the texture of moss softened by the lake’s mist and noticing the patterns of light on the path. You leave not with facts and figures, but with a feeling of profound peace and clarity.

Common questions about booking Hakone experiences through SimilarTours
Yes, especially if you want more than the standard lake-and-Mt.-Fuji views. Private guides here often know which hiking trails work best for your fitness level, where the wooden heritage sites actually are, and how to time photo spots for light. Since most tours run as private experiences with just your group, you'll move at your own pace without waiting for other travellers.
Check before you go, but private guides tend to fill up during peak seasons (spring cherry blossoms and autumn foliage). If you're visiting then, aim to book at least a week or two ahead. Quieter months give you more flexibility.
Private car transfers are popular here - many people arrange drives from their resort to Mt. Fuji viewpoints, hiking trailheads, or back to Tokyo airports. If you're staying put at a resort, walking tours of the town itself are doable, though distances can stretch depending on which area you're in.
Yes. Private chartered vehicles and guided day tours specifically combine Hakone with Mt. Fuji trips, often including stops at cultural or scenic spots along the way. Check before you go for current road conditions and visibility, since Mt. Fuji's weather changes fast.
That varies - some include just the guide and transportation, while others add entrance fees or meals. Always confirm what's covered when you book, especially if the tour has a set itinerary.
Yes, private shopping tours run regularly to outlet parks in Yokohama, about 45 minutes away. These work well if you want to skip the hassle of public transport and have a guide help with navigation.

Japan
Hakone is a mountain town about 90 minutes from Tokyo, famous for hot springs, views of Mt. Fuji across the lake, and a slower pace than the capital. Most visitors here book private guides - whether for full-day explorations, hikes with certified national guides, or targeted trips to Mt. Fuji itself. You'll also find people arranging private transfers to Tokyo's airports (Narita or Haneda) and shopping excursions to outlet parks in the Yokohama area. It's the kind of place where a local guide makes a real difference, since the best vantage points and cultural spots aren't always obvious to outsiders.
