Founded in 1218, the University of Salamanca is one of Europe's oldest universities. Tradition says students who find the frog without help will have good luck in their exams. The centuries-old challenge still has visitors staring at the façade while everyone around them pretends they already found it.

Casa de las Conchas has more than 300 scallop shells carved across its 15th-century façade. They reference the Order of Santiago, to which the original owner belonged, and turned an aristocratic home into one of Salamanca's strangest landmarks. Today, instead of nobles, you'll find a public library inside.

The Cueva de Salamanca became so notorious that the city's name was associated with witchcraft and secret knowledge far beyond Spain. The reality is less supernatural, but the legend survived for centuries. It's a darker side of a city normally famous for saints, scholars and university life.
