We go to the names that matter. Chocolate & Co., The Chocolate Project and Rogers' Chocolates are the three chocolate shops Victorians actually send visitors to, and Crust Bakery and The Dutch Bakery are the two bakeries locals queue at themselves. Most tours pick one or two of these. We do all five. Then there are the things you won't see coming: a savory chocolate sample that will change how you think about the ingredient, a thick and decadent drinking chocolate, and our own famous Nanaimo bar sampled inside one of the oldest brick buildings in Victoria. Every stop is an independently owned local business, and we've been walking these blocks longer than any other food tour company in Victoria. That's why the makers know us by name, and why you'll hear the stories that never made it onto the heritage plaques.

Common questions about booking Victoria experiences through SimilarTours
May through September hits the sweet spot - you've got decent odds of whale sightings, gardens in their prime, and generally dry weather. Winter's mild by Canadian standards but things get quieter and rainier. If whales are your main draw, check the seasonal patterns before you go since migration varies year to year.
The popular private and small group tours - especially zodiac whale watching and multi-day west coast trips - can fill up weeks ahead during peak season, so aim for at least 2-3 weeks out if you're traveling June through August. Shoulder seasons give you more flexibility, but booking a week or two ahead is still smart practice.
You can absolutely wander the city on your own, but guided tours genuinely pay off here. A local guide makes the rainforest walks safer and richer, whale watching tours put you on the water where the animals actually are, and multi-day trips handle logistics so you don't waste time figuring out island hops. Worth it if you've got 2-3 days or more.
Private and small group day tours usually cover transportation, a guide, and sometimes lunch or snacks - check the specific listing. Multi-day trips tend to include accommodation and meals. Most don't cover park entrance fees, so budget extra if you're hitting places like Cathedral Grove.
The city center's walkable, there's decent local transit, and you can rent a car for countryside drives to Butchart Gardens or the west coast. That said, getting to Salt Spring Island or doing proper whale watching requires more logistics - ferries run regularly but timing matters, so tours can save you a real headache.
There are family-specific tours designed for mixed ages, and plenty of private options where you control the pace and duration. Zodiac whale watching can be cold and rough depending on conditions, so check age and weather requirements before you go. Most of the nature and garden tours work fine with kids who can handle moderate walking.
SimilarTours lets you compare what different booking sites offer for the same experience, so you can read reviews and see the details side by side before committing. Most outfitters have cancellation policies if plans change - check the fine print on whichever site you choose.

Victoria's the kind of place where you can wake up in a Georgian capital and be spotting orcas from a zodiac by afternoon. The city itself rewards a slow wander through local neighborhoods and historic corners, but what really draws people here are the escapes - Salt Spring Island's artsy island culture, the dramatic west coast rainforests, Butchart Gardens in full bloom, and the genuinely wild Pacific coastline around Sooke. Most visitors book private or small group tours to stitch these pieces together, whether that's a full week exploring Vancouver Island's remote edges or a focused day hitting waterfalls and old-growth forest. Families come for the adventure-focused trips, couples for the intimate zodiac tours cutting through whale territory.
