Sault Ste Marie's history has always revolved around the rapids. The story of industry, life, and labour in this city begins with the whitefish, moves on to the fur trading empires, the industrial giant created by Francis Clergue, and the canals that are the lifeblood of commerce on the Great Lakes today. The story follows the struggles of the working classes as he builds the canal, and later, adapts to industrial mechanization. It ends with the modern day output of steel, and the end of the twelve hour day. Follow along as we take you through the history of life and labour in Sault Ste Marie, using old photographs and paintings to see the Sault through the eyes of people who came before.

We offer private boat tours of the Fathom Five National Marine Park. Park in town and enjoy the boat ride on Tre Anni, that takes you along the shoreline of the Bruce Peninsula National Park and within the Fathom Five National Marine Park. On route to the Grotto, there are endless cliffs, many with overhangs over top of crevices and caverns. See the mass of people visiting the Grotto, who made the hike from the parking lot at Cypress Lake. Then we can pass by to see the caves at Cave Point. This amazing journey is dependent on wind and wave conditions. The Bruce Peninsula National Park is a geological trove of amazement. Aside from the overhangs, cliffs, caves and caverns, there are two legendary formations called the Flowerpots. There is mysticism in the creation of these two monolithic maidens, or is it the maiden and man? Wait for the Lore and the Legend to be told when you see them in person, face to face.

Common questions about booking Ontario experiences through SimilarTours
Summer (June through September) is peak season - the weather's warm, Algonquin Park's lakes are accessible, and all tours run regularly. Fall is stunning for canoe trips if you can handle cooler mornings. Winter shuts down most backcountry paddling, so check before you go if visiting outside summer months.
Multi-day canoe trips fill weeks or months ahead, especially the 4 to 6-day Algonquin expeditions during summer. Day tours from nearby towns to Niagara Falls have more availability but booking a week or two ahead keeps your options open - check before you go for exact slots.
If you're driving from Brampton or Burlington, you can reach the falls solo, but a small group tour handles parking, timing, and insider details about where crowds cluster and what actually matters. Many visitors book it simply for the convenience and context.
Yes - outfitters offer beginner-friendly 3 to 4-day trips with log cabin bases and guided instruction, not just hardcore backcountry. The multi-day format lets you find your rhythm. Check before you go about fitness requirements for longer expeditions, especially 6-day trips.
Most packages cover equipment (canoe, paddles, life jackets), accommodation (cabin or backcountry camp), and all meals. Some are all-inclusive with guides; others are more basic. Read the details on each tour - they vary widely depending on whether you're roughing it or staying in a cabin.
Day cruises on the Thousand Islands work well for younger children. Multi-day canoe trips depend on the child's age and paddling comfort - some outfitters run family-friendly shorter trips, others cater to stronger paddlers. Check before you go on specific age and skill requirements.
You'll need a car to reach Algonquin Park or move between towns like Brampton, Burlington, and Cornwall. Many tour operators offer pickups from nearby towns, which saves hassle if you don't want to self-drive to remote locations.

Canada
Ontario pulls visitors in three directions: the roaring spectacle of Niagara Falls, the serene backcountry of Algonquin Park, and the quieter charm of waterfront towns like Cornwall and the Thousand Islands. Most people book guided experiences here - private canoe trips into the park's interior run anywhere from long weekends to full weeks, while day tours from towns like Brampton and Burlington ferry visitors to the falls. You'll find everything from paddle-and-portage wilderness trips to relaxed boat cruises past island cottages.
