Common questions about booking Tbilisi experiences through SimilarTours
Summer months (June through September) are prime season for the mountain tours people book here - think Svaneti trekking and Tusheti horse migrations. Popular multi-week treks fill fast, so book 2-3 months ahead if you're targeting specific dates. Winter closes many high-altitude routes entirely.
The longer expeditions - 12+ day treks through Svaneti or horse migration tours - can book out by midsummer. If you're flexible on dates, 4-6 weeks is reasonable; if you want a specific week in July or August, aim for 2-3 months. Shorter city-based food tours have more availability.
Yes. The remote regions where people book these experiences - Tusheti, Vashlovani, the high Caucasus - benefit hugely from local guides who know terrain, weather patterns, and logistics. Many routes are unmarked, villages are scattered, and guides add cultural context that transforms a trek into something deeper.
Check before you go, as inclusions vary by operator and tour length. Longer packages (12-17 days) typically cover accommodation, most meals, and transport between regions; day treks often include guide and lunch. Clarify whether flights to/from Tbilisi are included in your quoted price.
Tbilisi's main neighborhoods are walkable, though the terrain is hilly. Day trips and food experiences work fine for families. Serious trekking tours (tent camping, horse migrations, high-altitude routes) suit fit adults and older teens, not young kids. Check specific tour age recommendations before booking.
The city has metro, minibuses, and taxis - all cheap and functional but chaotic. Most tour operators arrange pickup from your hotel. If you're here a day or two before a multi-week trek, staying near Metekhi or Vake makes it easy to wander the old town or grab a last good meal.
Day hikes and horseback migrations suit most fitness levels with a guide. Longer treks like the 12-day Svaneti route or 6-day Tusheti-Khevsureti loop demand solid fitness and altitude acclimatization; 2-3 tent camping nights back-to-back is real work. Be honest about your experience when booking.

Georgia
Tbilisi sits at the crossroads of the Caucasus, and what draws travelers here isn't just the capital's chaotic charm - it's the gateway to some of the world's most dramatic mountain landscapes. People book serious treks through Svaneti's tower-studded valleys, horse migrations across Tusheti's high plateaus, and multi-week journeys that string together Georgia and Azerbaijan. The food scene is equally obsessive - expect wine tastings and cooking classes woven into longer itineraries. Whether you're climbing Mount Kazbegi, following pastoral herds through remote gorges, or spending two weeks eating your way across the country, Tbilisi is where your Caucasus adventure actually begins.
