Mugen-an is designated as a tangible cultural property of Ishikawa Prefecture and is considered one of the finest examples of samurai-style architecture. Built in 1912 in Kanazawa by the Yokoyama family, high-ranking retainers of the Kaga domain, it was used for ceremonies and special occasions. Today, it also displays valuable artworks and crafts, including Kutani porcelain and tea utensils connected to Sen no Rikyu. Around 100 years ago, the residence was relocated to Yamanaka Onsen, where it welcomes visitors as a place to experience traditional Japanese culture. In this peaceful setting, guests can appreciate the harmony between architecture, craftsmanship, and hospitality. An English-speaking guide will accompany you throughout the experience, explaining the history of Mugen-an, the tea ceremony, and Yamanaka lacquerware in a clear and engaging way.
