From central Milan, take a train from Milano Centrale station to Bergamo. The journey takes approximately 50 minutes to 1 hour, depending on the service. Once you arrive at Bergamo railway station, walk or take a local bus to Porta Nuova, the main gateway to the lower city (Città Bassa).
From Porta Nuova, continue towards the Upper Town (Città Alta). You can either walk uphill through the historic streets or take the funicular. The funicular station is located near Viale Vittorio Emanuele II and provides a short and scenic ride up to Città Alta.
