Le château de Versailles was the capital city in the 17th century. This is something new since the court used to be an itinerant one. Louis XIV known as the Sun king decided to leave the Louvre and settle down along with his court, family, clergy and ministers in Versailles. Its gardens played a huge role socially and politically speaking. Each grove has its meaning and beauty. André Le Notre was the only of all the artists working in Versaille who obtained the nobility title. Louis XIV admired this man who turned a swamp into the best gardens in Europe. Then we will visit the domain of Marie Antoinette,'Petit Trianon', we will enter in her palace and visit her anglo-chinese style gardens and her hamlet, an idealised normand village.
