Transnistria is one of the most intriguing destinations for tourists visiting Moldova. This region, not recognized as an independent state yet possessing all the attributes of one, attracts visitors with its well-preserved traces of the Soviet era, which coexist — sometimes unexpectedly — with monuments from the Ottoman and Russian Empires, as well as with cultural symbols and memes of the present day.
Highlights include: Suvorov Monument, Lenin Statue, House of Soviets, The iconic Soviet tank in the city center, Victory Park and Dniester River views We’ll pause for lunch at a typical Soviet-style stolovaya (canteen) – step back in time as you enjoy classic dishes like borscht, cutlets, and kompot, all served in a retro atmosphere with simple decor and nostalgic charm.
After a brief stop in the city, we continue our journey to the legendary Bender Fortress, built in the 16th century and fortified by the Ottomans and Russians. During the excursion, you'll explore ancient walls, towers, and inner courtyard and enjoy panoramic views of the Dniester river.
• A peaceful visit to Kitskany Monastery, home to one of Moldova’s tallest bell towers and a place of spiritual reflection, or • A stop at the elegant Castel Mimi Winery (optional, wine tasting available for additional cost)
