After meeting your certified guide and getting fitted with glacier gear (helmet, crampons, harness, and ice axe), you’ll receive a safety briefing and learn basic glacier walking and climbing techniques. The tour begins with a scenic hike across the glacier, exploring dramatic ice formations like crevasses, moulins, and blue ice ridges. Along the way, your guide will share insights into the glacier’s history and geology. The highlight of the tour is a beginner-friendly ice climbing experience on a vertical ice wall. Under expert supervision, you’ll use ropes and ice tools to climb safely—no experience needed. This small-group tour lasts about 4 hours, with 3 hours on the ice, and is perfect for adventurous travelers with moderate fitness.
The meeting point is at the Icelandic Mountain Guides Base Camp, located next to the visitor centre. Please be there 20 minutes before departure.
