Our guides are fully qualified and have extensive knowledge of the Lake Myvatn area. Not only will you learn about the history, landscape and present day life, on this tour you will also hear about Icelandic folktales, humor and culture. This is a total 6-7 hour tour trough some of the most picturesque landscape in North Iceland. All travel time is included in that length. After about 35 minute drive from Akureyri we come the beautiful waterfall Goðafoss. We stop here for a good time for you to enjoy the scenery before we continue our drive to Lake Myvatn. After around 30 minute drive from the waterfall we come to Lake Myvatn itself and our first stop is at Skutustadir, Psuedo Craters. We then stay in the area for around 3 hours with many different stops during the day like at Dimmuborgir lava field, and Namaskard fumerols. Whale Watching Hauganes is the oldest whale watching tour operator in Iceland. We operate two classic Icelandic oak boats that are both spacious and extremely stable here in the still fjord of Eyjafjörður which is well sheltered from the open North Atlantic Ocean. We classify our tours as "slow travel" as you will get the chance of enjoying the beautiful landscape of the fjord along with its wildlife while not feeling in a rush or that you are interrupting the wildlife in any way. Our tours are carbon neutral as we plant one tree for each tour along with blending the oil with bio-diesel made in Akureyri (the capital of North Iceland, just 25 minutes south from us) from frying oils from local restaurants. You will find a restaurant here as well, a campsite, hot tubs down by the black beach of Sandvik and the famous beer-spa here just 5 minutes north from us.
