Pochampally is a village of 5,000 looms where every household is part of one extraordinary craft tradition — the weaving of Ikat silk sarees whose technique was the first Indian textile to receive Geographical Indication protection. The design is not applied after weaving but embedded in the threads before the loom is set up, each thread individually tied and dyed to carry its exact portion of the pattern.
