This is a self-guided treasure hunt where you step into the shoes of Mainz's most famous son: you play Gutenberg himself, in the year 1430, with your family's name and the future of the written word riding on your choices. The story is woven from the city's real history, with patricians clashing against guilds and a relic lost to time, so every puzzle you solve teaches you something true about Mainz behind the fiction. There is no guide and no fixed schedule: you set the pace, pause for a coffee or a glass of local Riesling whenever you like, and resume whenever you want (even on another day). We offer 24/7 customer support and built-in hints to guarantee that you never stay stuck.
It has easy difficulty and it's perfect for solo adventurers, couples, friends, families with older kids, or team-building events.
nz during 1430, before the printing press made him famous, on a hunt for the lost relic of St. Martin that could pull the city back from the brink of chaos. You will start at the Gautor and follow clues down through the old town: St. Stephan's Church with its glowing blue Chagall windows, the Carnival Fountain on Schillerplatz, the Gutenberg monument, the mighty Mainz Cathedral, the Renaissance Market Fountain, the WWI Nail Column and the Memorial of German Unity, finishing at the Fischtor on the banks of the Rhine. At each stop you will investigate your surroundings to solve a puzzle that reveals your next clue, along with the real stories behind the landmarks: why citizens hammered nails into a wooden column during WWI, or what the market fountain has to do with the Peasants' War. You can play alone or bring your whole group, any day and any hour: just book a ticket and start whenever you want. The walk takes about 90-120 minutes with optional breaks, over roughly 2.5 km (1.5 miles).
