For centuries, Nuremberg was the secret capital of the Holy German Roman Empire, here the well-known Diets of Nuremberg were held, assemblies where the emperor of the Holy Empire met with the prince electors. For this crucial importance was chosen as a propaganda center during the Third Reich. Hitler considered Nuremberg the heir of the Germanic traditions, the capital of the congresses, wanting to keep alive the memory and the legacy of the powerful Germanic Empire of the Middle Ages in the Nazi structure. Such was its significance that here resided one of the greatest representatives of anti-Semitism of the regime, Julius Streicher, the owner and promoter of the weekly Der Stürmer. The city acquired the title of German city par excellence, being presented as the most loyal locality to the regime of all.

Hello and welcome to Nuremberg. As a Nuremberg native, I would be happy to present you my hometown. The focus will be on Nuremberg's "Golden Age" of the late Middle Ages with its craftsmen, traders and patricians. We visit, among other things, the main market, Kaiserburg and Tiergärtnertorplatz as well as Nuremberg's most beautiful half-timbered street. Of course, we also learn about Germany's greatest artist, Albrecht Dürer, and other personalities who shaped Franconia's capital. Unfortunately, a direct path from Nuremberg's "Golden age" leads to its romantic transfiguration and to the misuse of the city's reputation for the National Socialist "Party Rallies" and ultimately to complete destruction in the WWII. But this shouldn't be the end. The reconstruction of Nuremberg gave the city back its identity. It would be a pleasure to guide you through Nurembergs history and culture. Of course, you will receive all the information you need about your stay, including recommendations on restaurants and other sights. See you in Nuremberg.

The congresses of the Nazi party were held annually in the month of September and each had a particular motto, which was given according to the historical events of the time. Since Nuremberg was chosen as the venue for the congresses, the work of this complex began, which was on the outskirts of the city and had the Zeppelin Field as the epicenter of the great events. Here stood the tribune from which Hitler delivered his speeches. In the vicinity was located the so-called Coliseum, a pavilion that intended to imitate the Roman building. Due to the beginning of the contest, it was never finalized. Near this place was also the Field of Mars, in which military games were used to exalt the combative spirit and harangue the ranks. The whole space of the propaganda project was connected to a Grand Avenue that led to the different buildings and that should serve for the realization of the great military parades.

I'm Kevin and you could say that I'm a cultural interpreter, not a teacher (passing on knowledge) or a sightseeing guide (pointing things out). I'm more like a reverse anthropologist: a local expert insider explaining and sharing Rothenburg's culture and history with my inquisitive customers. I lead exploratory walks and unscripted cultural experiences. Information is presented in a way that allows my guests to make their own mental connections because, after all, a tour with just interesting information is infotainment. The most memorable tours are the ones that make people think and feel. Rothenburg, seemingly untouched by the passage of time, is a town on the Romantic Road that is approx. 1 hour drive from Nuremberg. It is known for its medieval town center and its mostly undamaged 14th-century town wall. In the Middle Ages, Rothenburg was a free imperial city, reaching its apex of prosperity in the 15th-century.

Common questions about booking Nuremberg experiences through SimilarTours
December's packed for the Christmas markets, which are genuinely worth seeing. Summer's pleasant but crowded. Spring and fall are quieter and often better for walking tours without fighting tourist floods. Check before you go for specific market dates and weather.
Popular experiences like private city tours and Bamberg brewery excursions can fill up weeks ahead, especially around holidays and weekends. A couple of weeks' notice is smart; longer if you want a specific guide or are visiting in peak season.
Yes-the city's history is complex and layered, and locals dig deeper than generic walking routes. Many visitors book private architectural or historical tours specifically because the stories matter here. You'll also move at your own pace and skip crowded group checkpoints.
The old town's compact and walkable, which is why walking tours are so popular. For day trips to Bamberg or transfers to other cities, private car hire or guided drives are the easiest option. Check local transport websites for tram and bus options.
The medieval walls, Christmas markets, and town layout appeal to kids. Some tours (like the Nazi sites) are heavy and better for older teens or adults. Look for family-friendly private tours or day trips to Bamberg's breweries if you're with kids.
Walking tours usually cover your guide and curated route through specific areas-the old town, city walls, architecture, or historical sites. Transfers and day trips include transport and driver; some add entry fees or brewery tastings. Always check what's included before booking.
Yes-private wedding and occasion photography is available in Nuremberg and nearby Erlangen. This requires booking well in advance, especially if you need someone fluent in English or familiar with specific venues. Confirm dates and what's included in the package.

Nuremberg's a city that doesn't shy away from its past. Medieval walls still ring the old town, half-timbered buildings cluster around the main square, and the Christmas markets here are genuinely special. Visitors tend to book private guides for the heavy history-the Nazi rally grounds tours are popular, especially paired with old town walks-but plenty also want lighter experiences: brewery tours in nearby Bamberg, nightlife crawls through the city center, even private photography sessions. You'll find people arranging car transfers to Prague or Munich, which tells you Nuremberg works well as a base for exploring Bavaria and beyond.
