Getting started
Arrive at the venue and check in before the scheduled start time, as late arrivals cannot be accommodated once the program begins. The experience takes place in a relaxed event space in Kyoto rather than a traditional ochaya tea house.
What to expect
• Traditional Kyoto dinner: Enjoy a meal prepared by a long-established Kyoto restaurant specializing in shidashi-style cuisine, a traditional local catering style known for delicate flavors and dashi-based dishes.
• Tea ceremony demonstration: Watch the Maiko perform a traditional tea ceremony with graceful movements and refined etiquette. Guests can also upgrade to a hands-on tea-making experience.
• Maiko dance performance: Observe two elegant traditional dances performed by the Maiko, with themes inspired by Japanese seasons, romance, and daily life.
• Q&A session: Ask questions directly and learn about the Maiko’s training, routines, appearance, and life in Kyoto’s traditional entertainment world.
• Interactive game with Maiko: Join or watch a lively traditional game often played during Maiko hospitality gatherings, creating a fun and engaging cultural interaction.
• Photo opportunity and souvenir: Take a commemorative photo beside the Maiko and receive a Senjyafuda lucky charm as a keepsake from the experience.
