Kiso Hinoki Chopstick Making Experience in Magome-juku

You’ll use a traditional Japanese kanna hand plane to shape the wood, then finish your chopsticks with sandpaper. The full experience takes about 20–30 minutes. If you are short on time before heading out on the Nakasendo Trail, you can complete just the kanna work in about 10 minutes and take the chopsticks with you. You can then finish the sanding later along the trail or at your accommodation. Once completed, your handmade chopsticks are yours to keep. You’ll also receive a small aroma bag filled with fragrant Kiso Hinoki wood shavings, so you can enjoy the fresh scent of Hinoki after your visit.
