Guided tour of the Melatenfriedhof in Cologne

Melaten is not just a cemetery, Melaten is city history, art history, landscape protection area, cultural area and oasis in the middle of the city. Before Melaten became a cemetery over 200 years ago, it was a place of execution and a leprosy station well outside the city gates. Today the cemetery is the final resting place for many Cologne residents, there are around 55,000 graves here.
