Melaten is not just a cemetery, Melaten is city history, art history, landscape protection area, cultural area and oasis in the middle of the city. Before Melaten became a cemetery over 200 years ago, it was a place of execution and a leprosy station well outside the city gates. Today the cemetery is the final resting place for many Cologne residents, there are around 55,000 graves here. And since we live in Cologne, this is of course the place for many stories and anecdotes. Accompany us to this special place of Cologne past and present.
