Getting started

After a short introduction in German and a brief outline of the route, you set off together on foot toward the Elbphilharmonie and the historic Speicherstadt district.

What to expect

Elbphilharmonie

This landmark concert hall on the banks of the Elbe is the architectural centerpiece of modern Hamburg and a key focus of the tour.

Features

• Your expert German-speaking guide explains how the Elbphilharmonie fits into Hamburg's cultural life and points out key exterior design elements as you view the building from different angles.

• With your professional city guide, you learn about the surrounding Elbe waterfront and how the Elbphilharmonie connects the historic port area with the new HafenCity district.

Speicherstadt

The tour continues into Speicherstadt, Hamburg's famous warehouse district, known for its brick architecture and network of canals.

Features

• Along the Speicherstadt streets and canals, your expert German-speaking guide highlights characteristic warehouse facades and bridges, helping you understand how this quarter once powered Hamburg's trade.

• A professional city guide leads you through selected streets in Speicherstadt, providing context in German about how this district links to both the Elbphilharmonie and the expanding HafenCity.

HafenCity

HafenCity is Hamburg's major urban redevelopment zone by the river, and it forms the modern contrast to Speicherstadt's historic brick buildings.

Features

• Walking through HafenCity, you see how new residential and office buildings line the waterfront, while your expert German-speaking guide explains the planning ideas behind this district.

• Your professional city guide in German connects what you see in HafenCity with the earlier stops at Elbphilharmonie and Speicherstadt, giving you a coherent picture of Hamburg's transformation without including entrance fees, which are not part of this tour.
