These huts were built in 1850 during the slavery era and served as a camp site for slaves, who worked at the salt pans in order to collect and ship salt, one of Bonaire's primary export products. These huts were used as sleeping areas and places for storing personal belongings. Every Friday afternoon, the slaves walked for 7 hours from Rincon to spend the weekend with their families, to return on Sunday. Four Obelisks on Bonaire were used as landmarks to show incoming ships the way. The obelisks were painted red, white, blue and orange (the colors of the Dutch flag).

The south of the island of Bonaire is host to the famous salt flats & mounts. An area where Cargill has been operating since 1997 producing some of the purest salts in the world Using the salt, the sea and winds of Bonaire, the salt accumulated in the impressive mounds of crystals is produced. The Salt pyramids of Bonaire can be seen when arriving either by sea or by air, each of those is roughly 50-feet high and contains approximately 10,000 metric tons of 99.6% pure salt. As you drive along south road, you will notice the different colors of the water, turning into an intense pink color.

Last stop is the snorkeling tour. We are in the water for approximately 1 hour. I give a short briefing of what we are going to do. During the snorkeling tour I make underwater photo's that I send to you after the tour. 5 underwater photo's are included with the tour. We do have snorkeling gear for you that is also included. We recommend to buy your own aqua shoes. Of course if you go snorkeling in the sea, you need swim ;-).
We pick you up where you are on the Island. If you visit by Cruise ship, we will pick you up at the Cruiseterminal. We have a sign with your name on it. Please don't take any valuables with you. We can only take people snorkeling of they can swim and snorkeling is at your own risk. On Bonaire we don't close our vehicles. We do have a Minivan where we can transport larger groups. Do you want to start at a different time? ask about the possibilities.
