A unique opportunity awaits in the tranquil surroundings of a rural York farm, with a private basket weaving day designed for two. Under expert guidance, learn the intricate techniques of willow weaving, transforming English grown willow into a beautiful, functional basket. This immersive workshop not only teaches you how to prepare willow, create a sturdy base, and weave the walls, but you also get to finish your basket off with a pretty, plaited effect decorative border.
How to harvest, prepare and weave using two techniques. After spending the first half of the course making the base, you will then break for lunch (bring a packed lunch). Enjoy the tranquil surroundings of the farms tipi site, sit on the picnic benches, around the fire circle or in the cosy hut. After a break you will learn a new weave, three rod wale, which is used to build up the walls of your baskets. At the end of the session you will get one to one tuition to complete a complicated plaited style border that really finishes off your willow basket. Refreshments, materials and tool-use are included. There is a proper toilet and easy free parking on-site. Workshops can be indoors by the woodturner or outside in the sun depending on the weather on the day.
