Its name comes from the character Iracema, which gives title to the novel Iracema, by the Ceará writer José de Alencar

its construction in 1920, with the proposal to serve as a port of embarkation and disembarkation of people and goods between the land and the anchors that could not approach the shore, since the Metálica Bridge, the main 'port' of Fortaleza at the time, was in poor condition and therefore was being rebuilt in the early 1920s. Its name is due to the designers of the bridge structure, designed by engineers from the English company Nastor Griffts, hence the name of the English bridge.
