Also, there are two more interesting facts about Lopud - it is home to the oldest Botanical garden in Europe and a place where one of the rare famous sandy beaches is located. According to the local legend, if you bathe with your loved one on Šunj beach, you'll never separate! Šipan holds the Guinness world record for the biggest number of olive trees on one island. Historically, it was important to Dubrovnik Republic's noble families as it was their favorite summer residency. They built historical villas and summer homes there, and today you can enjoy in late-Gothic architecture. In a place called Suđurađ which is one of the ports too, many families decided to stay and keep the fisherman tradition. The reason behind this is that Šipan is the furthest from mainland, and tourism never succeeded to commercialise it. Basically, on Šipan you can see the actual local life and activities that locals do, not related to tourism. It's not really widely inhabited, but the natural splendor of this island will leave you breathless. It is perfect for swimming and diving and it is rich in hidden bays. You can explore the island, find some interesting cliffs for jumping or nice locations for sunbathing!
