Known for being beautifully scenic, the Machame Route also has the best summit success rate. This route allows you to “climb high, sleep low”, giving your body time to adjust to the changes in altitude over several days. Climbs can take six or seven days; however, we would always advise choosing the longer route for the best chance of acclimatization and reaching the summit.

On a northern circuit safari, travelers depart from Arusha. Lake Manyara National Park and Tarangire National Park are little more than three hours away and are often incorporated as part of a longer safari. The most visited part of the northern circuit is the Ngorongoro Crater, where wildlife grazes and hunts in one of the largest volcanic craters in the world. If you are traveling from December to April, the annual wildebeest migration in Serengeti National Park is definitely not to be missed.

Known as the “ Whiskey route”, Truly Machame route is the most popular route and has a very high success rate of making it to the top. It offers beautiful and natural features of landscape. It starts with a nice day of walking through the rainforest and has a nice steady altitude increase each day. The accommodation on the way up and down is strictly camping (movable tents) only. The Machame Route takes you high to Lava Tower on day 3 then brings you down for an overnight at Barranco Camp. This intermediate ascent and descent is the secret to a successful acclimatization and is the reason that this route has a high success rate.

Furthermore, you have a choice of ascent routes to the summit, with the thrill-seekers opting for the daunting Western Breach route to the summit, while majority head for the lengthy, long winded climb up the Barafu trail, with the Rebmann glacier edging into your field of vision on your left as dawn breaks behind Mawenzi on your right. Furthermore, unlike Marangu route, on Lemosho route you don’t use the same path to descend as you took to climb up the mountain but instead you come down via the Mweka route,

Marangu Route. Known as the "Coca-Cola" route, the Marangu route is a classic trek on Mount Kilimanjaro. It is the oldest, most well established route. Many favor the Marangu route because it is considered to be the easiest path on the mountain, given its gradual slope. It is also the only route which offers sleeping huts in dormitory style accommodations. The minimum days required for this route is five, although the probability of successfully reaching the top in that time period is quite low. Spending an extra acclimatization day on the mountain is highly recommended when climbing Kilimanjaro using the Marangu route. However, despite its immense popularity, we avoid leading climbs on the Marangu route. The route has the least scenic variety of all the routes because the ascent and descent are done on the same path and it is the most crowded route for that reason. Marangu is favored only during the rainy season, where the hut accommodations are preferred.

This is a very special tour that allows you to concentrate most of your time in the Serengeti, to follow the unique spectacle that is the Great Migration. You will be able to spend at least 4 nights in the park, usually two in the Central Area (with the largest concentration of big cats) and the other two where the Migration is according to the time of the year (South, North or West). We have designed this particular tour so that you finish the safari in the most remote location in the Serengeti, and then fly from there to your next destination (Arusha or Zanzibar for example). However, shall you wish not to fly, we will redesign your tour so you do it by land and save the cost of the flight.

Common questions about booking Kilimanjaro experiences through SimilarTours
Most climbs take 5 to 7 days depending on your route and acclimatization needs. It's a high-altitude trek rather than technical climbing - the challenge is altitude and endurance, not rock climbing skills. A guided trek with porters is standard practice here.
July to September and January to February are dry seasons when visibility is best on the mountain and wildlife congregates around water. The Serengeti migration peaks June to October. Check before you go, as conditions vary year to year.
Most visitors book multi-day guided packages that combine mountain climbing with safari lodges and park transport. These handle logistics, camping, guides, and vehicle access to parks - it's far easier than piecing it together yourself. Solo travel here means managing permits, hiring guides separately, and arranging park transfers.
A 7 to 10-day trip typically dedicates 5 to 7 days to climbing or trekking, then 2 to 4 days on safari. Longer itineraries (10-14 days) let you do both more comfortably and add Zanzibar beach time after.
Safari sections work well for families, with operators running dedicated family trips. Zanzibar beaches appeal to honeymooners, and many tours bundle mountain experience with romantic beach resorts. The actual mountain climb suits fit adults and teenagers; young children typically skip it.
Most multi-day tours cover accommodation (mountain huts or safari lodges), meals, park entry fees, guides, and ground transport between locations. Check before you go on specifics like flights to Tanzania, tips, alcohol, and whether airport transfers are included.
Popular packages, especially during dry seasons and for honeymoon trips, book up 2 to 3 months ahead. Last-minute availability exists but you'll have fewer route and lodge choices, and peak dates may be full.

Tanzania
Kilimanjaro is Africa's highest peak, but most visitors don't come just to climb it. They combine treks up the mountain with multi-day safaris across Tanzania's northern parks - the Serengeti, Ngorongoro Crater, Tarangire - often pairing it all with beach time in Zanzibar. You'll see the wildebeest migration, spot lions and elephants from open vehicles, and hike through five distinct climate zones on the mountain itself. Popular trips run 7 to 14 days and mix high-altitude trekking, luxury lodge safaris, and honeymoon-friendly beach breaks.
