I’m inviting you to spend a really sensational day. Probably one of the most beautiful you'll have in Provence. I'll take you to one of my favorite spots in Gorges du Verdon where I go with my family and friends. The best way to explore this unic place is to have a boat ride in the canyon, the biggest in all Europe. You'll drive your little private electric boat having a picnic with some local wines. You can jump to the water or just unwind admiring the nature (2 hours easy drive, very calm water). Then we'll stop on few lavender fields off the beaten path. If you have a chance, you'll be the only one strolling there and taking pictures. Their beauty is really indescribable, even after the blooming period! The next stop is the perched UNESCO village Sainte-Croix with its incredible view of the Sainte Croix lake. Free time for strolling or beach time by the lake. *In case of bad weather, instead of the boat, I'll drive you to the charming Moustiers-Sainte-Marie village.

During this trip, I want you to discover the authentic Provence off the beaten path. We'll start this day by a real journey to the past. After the death of Jesus, Mary Magdalene's moved to Provence and spent her last 33 years in the grotto in the Sainte Baume massif. The place is very inspiring. You'll walk there on your own, at your own pace, and you'll have enough time to pray or meditate. Then, I'll offer you a local sandwich & a glass of rosé from my village. We'll reach Saint-Maximin-la-Sainte-Baume, a small coloured Provencal town : free time for shopping, ice creams, coffee and visit of Mary Magdalene basilica where her skull is preserved. We'll finish the day by a drive through the beautiful Sainte Victoire valley. If we have time, you can have a walk through the vines fields, visit a small, authentic village or taste local wines. Whether you are a pilgrim or simply fascinated by the incredible story of Mary Magdalene, I look forward to welcoming you for this mystical day!

An exceptional day to discover the beauty & relaxing ambiance of the Mediterranean coast. We can start by Marseille visiting the basilica Notre Dame de la Garde with its amazing 360° view of the city and sea or having a walk in the vibrant Old Port. But if you prefer to simply relax and have more time in Cassis, we can directly go to this chic & pictoresque village. I'll bring you to the highest cliff in all Europe, Le Cap Canaille. Incredible panoramic view of the sea and Cassis port, local appetizers & a glass of rosé..An unforgettable moment (if you prefer, I can arrange a wine tasting in the winery instead). Then, you'll have your free time to explore the village : nice boutiques & restaurants, a boat ride to visit les Calanques (I recommend to do the longer trip to see the most incredible spots). You can as well go at the beautiful beach in the center. Amazing landscapes, delicious wines.. Ready to experience the slow vibe of the southern dolce vita?

Hi, my name is Richard. I have lived and worked in London, New York and Hong Kong . I have lived in Aix now for 10 years , about 5 minutes walk from our meeting point .On a year plus long trip around the world my family took a lot of walking tours. It’s the best way to get to know a city and discover what makes a good walking tour - Small groups , so you can hear and ask questions. A guide who knows the facts , but also the stories , the characters , and what it’s like to actually live in the city, eat in the restaurants, go to the bars, not just reading it off a clipboard. I want you to know Aix and even want to live here , or at the very least come back and visit again, thats the easy bit !

Aix is a beautifully preserved city. In fact, its centre hasn’t changed much over the last 300 years, but that doesn't mean it's living in the past. On this self-guided audio tour, you’ll quickly see how the city’s history plays a huge part in the resurgence we’re seeing now in the fortunes of modern Aix. There are lots of elegant buildings and squares along the way, of course, and we’ll explore its 2,000-year-old story together – but there are also bustling markets, expensive clothing stores and some great cake shops. By the end of this tour, you’ll understand how the city’s turbulent past has shaped its present. It’s a fascinating story filled with plague, war, revolution, and fortunes made and lost. The highlights include: • How an archbishop developed an expensive real estate block • Why we remember Paul Cezanne and not Emile Zola • Aix’s very own rags to riches story • How Napoleon shaped Aix’s history And so much more! The tour can be enjoyed on location or virtually.

Common questions about booking Aix-en-Provence experiences through SimilarTours
Late June through mid-July is prime lavender season, and tours specifically advertise this window. The Gorges du Verdon and perched villages stay beautiful spring through autumn, but summer heat can be intense - early June or September often feel more comfortable for hiking and outdoor picnics.
Multi-day immersive stays and full-day private gorges tours fill up during peak season, so booking 2-4 weeks ahead is smart. Day trips and wine tours have more flexibility, but check before you go for your exact dates.
Yes, most visitors do. The region is spread out - Nice, Monaco, Cassis, Marseille, and the gorges aren't walkable from Aix - and a driver lets you stop at lavender fields and small villages without stressing about navigation or parking. Plus wine tastings pair better with someone else behind the wheel.
Aix town itself is walkable, but for countryside experiences you'll need either a guided group tour or a private driver. Most tours include pickup from central Aix, so check what's included before you book.
Multi-day tours usually cover accommodation, meals (especially picnics), and tastings. Day tours often include a driver and guided stops, sometimes wine or food experiences. Always confirm whether lunch, tastings, and activities are bundled or extra.
Small-group immersive stays and gorges day trips work well for families comfortable with moderate hiking. Wine-focused tours skew adult. Check the specific itinerary and activity level before booking with kids or older travellers.
Taxis exist but get pricey for full-day countryside exploration. Private driver tours usually cost less than taxis plus admission fees, and you don't stress about directions. For town activities, Aix is compact enough for walking.

France
Aix-en-Provence sits at the heart of Provence, a sun-soaked region where lavender fields roll into dramatic canyons and wine country stretches across rolling hills. Visitors here tend to book experiences in clusters - a wine tour paired with a gourmet picnic, a day trip to the Gorges du Verdon combined with stops at perched villages, or a multi-day escape blending Aix's elegant old town with Cassis's coastal charm and Marseille's grit. Private drivers and small-group guides dominate the scene, which makes sense given how scattered the region's real draws are. You'll find yourself sipping rosé in a vineyard, playing pétanque after lunch, and hiking canyon trails in the same weekend.
