I'm a native of Teramo, one of the most important wine areas in Abruzzo. I'm a wine & food lover and I'm increasing my culture and knowledge attending a 3y Sommelier course at the Italian Sommelier Federation (FIS). On all the FIS events, I'm able to invite my guest to join exclusive tastings, as well as having personal connections with most of the wineries in Abruzzo, allowing me to have a better treatment for our guests. As well as being an official Tour Leader recognised by the Abruzzo Region, I found Experience BellaVita, a company that promotes sustainable tourism experiences in the less touristic areas of Italy, in Abruzzo. I and my colleague & friend Alberto, we run together the experiences that I designed over the years. He has my same qualifications and the same passion for Abruzzo and our wines. 1 of 5* reviews Marino was really knowledgeable, super friendly and went out of his way to make sure we had a nice time. We can't recommend him highly enough.

In the narrow territory of the village, which has always been devoted to viticulture and more generally to cultivation, one of the world's smallest Appellations of Controlled Origin has been created: the Villamagna Doc. Our philosophy stems from tradition, which has handed down to us the cultivation of roses in vineyards as a practice used since ancient times. The rose, an extremely sensitive plant, placed at the beginning of the rows, controls the health of the vine and helps the winemaker to monitor and protect the vineyard, detecting any pathologies and facilitating rapid intervention. The typicality of our production lies in the craftsmanship of each step. In fact, each bottle is individually numbered and prepared by hand until the dried rose is placed. You will visit the vineyards and olive groves and then return to the winery to the tasting of 3 Labels accompanied of the tasting of our oil with homemade bread

The tour of the Palmenti di Pietranico is a circuit created for the visit of ancient tanks, huge outcropping rocks scattered over the territory that, worked with extreme skill, were used as tanks to make wine directly on the fields. Thus the peasants brought home only the must, leaving the processing waste directly in the countryside, avoiding the effort of transporting to the farms material that would not produce wine and thus fertilizing the same fields. The millstones are one of the best testimonials to understand the refined level reached by local artisans and the enormous size that the production of fine wines had achieved in the territory. In the Municipality of Pietranico there is the highest concentration of millstones excavated in the rock in Abruzzo, located on the west-facing slope dominated by the town.

Common questions about booking Abruzzo experiences through SimilarTours
Autumn is prime time for truffle hunting and wine tasting, when the forests are rich and harvest season brings energy to the region. Summer works for coastal fishing and water-based activities around Tortoreto. Spring offers mild weather for walking tours and photography work without summer crowds.
Specialized experiences like truffle hunting with lunch, printmaking classes, and private fishing trips book up weeks ahead, especially in peak season. Walking tours and winery visits typically have more availability, but booking 2-3 weeks out gives you choice. Check before you go for current availability.
For experiences based in one town like fishing in Tortoreto or a specific winery, you can book transport as part of the tour. But if you want flexibility to move between L'Aquila, coastal villages, and inland wine country in a single trip, a car or Vespa rental makes sense. Most visitors hire a driver for the day or join a group Vespa tour rather than drive themselves.
Yes. A local guide transforms a walk through L'Aquila's history or a truffle hunt from pleasant to genuinely meaningful. Fishermen know where the tuna run, photographers know the light, wine producers share stories you won't find online. These aren't generic tours-they're apprenticeships in someone's passion.
Fishing trips usually cover the boat and guide, sometimes lunch. Wine tastings include samples and a winery visit. Masterclasses like printmaking cover materials and instruction. Food-focused experiences like truffle hunting typically include a meal. Check each booking for specifics on transport, meals, and equipment.
Fishing trips, Vespa tours, and winery visits work with kids, though age guidelines vary-check before you book. Yoga retreats are adults-focused. Printmaking and photography classes depend on the child's age and patience for detail work.
Use a comparison site like SimilarTours to see tour options from different operators side by side, then book directly with the provider that fits your dates and style. Many guides and instructors work with multiple platforms, so you'll often find the same person listed in a few places with slightly different pricing.

Italy
Abruzzo rewards slow travel. This region in central Italy draws visitors who want to cook with locals, hunt for truffles in autumn forests, and taste wines that rarely leave the region. You'll find yourself on Vespa tours through hilltop villages, casting lines for tuna off the Adriatic coast, or sitting in a printmaking studio learning a craft that's been practiced here for centuries. L'Aquila's Renaissance architecture tells stories of resilience, while yoga retreats and fishing trips appeal to those seeking both activity and stillness. It's the kind of place where a morning might involve haggling at a market and an afternoon might mean learning to sail.
