Learn to prepare an authentic Bengali meal and visit a local market with an expert home cook. Abhinanda lives in Andheri West with her husband and son in a contemporary apartment. Abhinanda will take you to her local market and teach you about regional produce. Then you will return to her home and spend time in the kitchen together, creating a delicious Bengali feast. Enjoy the meal together at her dining table with Abhinanda and her family, when they are available. If you are only interested in the cooking class but not the market tour, choose the cooking class only option.
This is a unique opportunity to learn to cook with a Mumbai local in her kitchen. You'll leave with new cooking skills, a full stomach, and a new friend in Mumbai!
Abhinanda is passionate about Bengali cuisine and is the host of food events and TV shows! Abhinanda warmly welcomes you into her home with a drink. After discussing the menu for the day, join her on a trip to the local market. Abhinanda will introduce you to a wide variety of local and seasonal fruits and vegetables and purchase a few ingredients for your meal. Return to Abhinanda's home where you will begin your hands-on cooking class. During your 1.5 hour cooking class, learn to cook a Bengali meal from scratch. You will learn to make 2-3 dishes such as maach paturi, fish steamed in banana leaves, aloo poshto, potatoes cooked in a lightly spiced poppy seed paste, and luchi, deep fried flatbread. After cooking, share the meal you helped prepare over laughter and conversation with your host. Your meal might include other dishes Abhinanda has prepared in advance and concludes with a traditional Bengali dessert such as bhapa doi, steamed, sweetened yogurt accented by saffron or cardamom and chai or coffee upon request.
Please meet your host Abhinanda at her home in Oshiwara, Andheri West neighborhood of Mumbai. Exact address can be found in your ticket upon booking confirmation.
