Arrive at the Temple of Heaven Park and present your ticket at the entrance. If you've selected the audio guide option, collect or activate your guide before beginning your self-paced exploration of the vast UNESCO World Heritage Site.
What to expect
• Temple of Heaven Park: Explore China's largest surviving imperial altar complex, covering approximately 2.7 million square metres. Once reserved exclusively for emperors, the park combines magnificent ceremonial architecture with tranquil gardens and ancient cypress forests.
• Hall of Prayer for Good Harvests: Admire the park's most iconic landmark—a magnificent circular wooden hall built entirely without nails. This architectural masterpiece was where emperors prayed for prosperous harvests each year.
• Imperial Vault of Heaven & Circular Mound Altar: Visit the Imperial Vault of Heaven, home to ceremonial tablets, and continue to the Circular Mound Altar, where emperors conducted elaborate rituals to honour Heaven during the winter solstice.
• Ingenious acoustic architecture: Experience the famous Echo Wall, Triple-Sound Stone, and Dialogue Stone, remarkable examples of ancient Chinese engineering that use sound reflection principles to create fascinating acoustic effects.
• A glimpse into local Beijing life: Beyond its historic monuments, the park is a favourite gathering place for locals. Watch residents practicing tai chi, dancing, singing, or playing traditional games beneath centuries-old trees, offering an authentic look at everyday life in Beijing.
