Hosted by Cape Breton’s only raw bar, this hands-on experience combines oyster shucking, guided tasting and oyster education on the patio at Island Folk Cider House. Guests enjoy ten oysters and a glass of locally crafted cider while learning about oyster anatomy, tasting profiles and Atlantic Canada’s oyster culture. Each guest also takes home their own shucking knife.
hosted by The Saltwater Social Raw Bar—Cape Breton’s only raw bar—on the patio under an event tent at Island Folk Cider House in Downtown Sydney ( 3 minute walk from Sydney cruise port) Perfect for beginners & oyster lovers, this experience will teach you how to safely open, prepare and enjoy fresh oysters. Your host will guide you through proper shucking technique, oyster anatomy and the characteristics that make each oyster unique. You’ll receive ten oysters to shuck and enjoy while learning how to taste an oyster and identify differences in salinity, sweetness, texture and finish. You’ll also receive a glass of locally crafted Island Folk cider and learn how different cider styles complement or contrast an oyster’s flavour No previous experience is required, and all equipment is provided. At the end of the class, you’ll take home your own oyster-shucking knife to continue practicing your new skills.
Walk up hill leaving the cruise port parking lot towards the main road ( Esplanade). Turn right onto the Esplanade. Walk 200 M and turn left onto Nepean ST. It will intersect with Charlotte street but you will cross the street and continue down Nepean (slightly to the left) beside the church.
