The fortress was originally constructed by the Dutch in 1653, but then destroyed and rebuilt during Qing Dynasty. Since then, the fortress was reconstructed for several times since Japanese colonization. Today Fort Provintia has become one of the most iconic landmarks in the city of Tainan.
