Getting started

Arrive at the Safi cooperative and check in for your Standard Group Pottery Workshop, shared participant session option. Meet your expert potter, who introduces the small-group format, with a maximum of ten participants. After a brief overview of the tools and clay, you move to the workspace to begin your hands-on session.

This workshop takes place in Safi, the Moroccan city known for its pottery trade, where you work alongside a local potters' cooperative. You learn step by step how a simple lump of clay becomes a finished Safi-style piece that you can take home.

• Hands-on work at the potter's wheel is the core of the session, as you throw your own pot and feel how the clay responds under your fingers.

• Essential pottery techniques are introduced in sequence, so you practice centering, opening, and pulling the clay to shape your vessel with increasing control.

• Expert potter guidance and all clay materials are provided, and all necessary materials, tools, and refreshments are included so you can focus fully on creating.

• Guidance in Arabic, French, or English is available, keeping the standard group workshop format interactive while still allowing personalized attention in this small group size of ten.

• You decorate your piece with the traditional blue and white motifs of Safi and keep your finished piece as a souvenir.

• Traditional Moroccan tea is served during the experience, giving you a pause to watch the cooperative at work and see how your own process fits into Safi's wider pottery trade.

• At the end of the session, you take home your finished piece, created from start to finish at the potter's wheel under expert guidance.

Wrapping up

When the workshop concludes, you are free to leave the cooperative at your own pace and arrange your own transport from the workshop, since transport to and from the workshop is not included.
