The name Al-Dira means armor, as the Prophet ﷺ is said to have worn his battle armor here while preparing for Uhud.

These small yet spiritually significant mosques mark the area where the Prophet ﷺ and his companions dug the trench (Khandaq) to defend Madinah during the Battle of the Trench in 627 CE (5th year of Hijrah).
