Getting started

For the shared wildlife safari, you start from a central meeting point where your professional nature or wildlife guide checks you in before arranging entry to Hegra Nature Reserve. If you choose the option with private round-trip hotel transfers, your experience begins with pickup from your hotel and direct transport to the reserve entrance. In both cases, you then board a safari-style 4x4 vehicle to begin the off-road journey.

What to expect

Hegra Nature Reserve

Hegra Nature Reserve is a quieter, less explored side of AlUla, away from the archaeological tombs and official heritage-site tours. Across approximately 2 hours on the shared safari, or about 3 to 3.5 hours with the hotel transfer option, you travel through sandstone mountains, volcanic landscapes, and open desert valleys in search of wildlife and desert birds.

• Travel aboard safari-style 4x4 transportation inside the reserve as your guide pilots you along off-road tracks that cut through sandstone mountains, past volcanic landscapes, and across scenic desert valleys.

• Entry to Hegra Nature Reserve is pre-arranged so you can focus on the environment around you while your guide leads the route deeper into this desert habitat away from the main archaeological sites.

• A professional nature or wildlife guide provides wildlife, landscape, geology, and conservation interpretation, explaining how native species and desert ecosystems adapt to the harsh conditions and how conservation efforts support the reserve.

• Guiding is available in Arabic and English, so you can follow detailed explanations about AlUla's wildlife, geology, and conservation regardless of which of these two languages you prefer.

• Selected photography stops are built into the route, allowing time to compose shots of desert birds in their natural habitat, textured sandstone formations, and wide desert vistas from carefully chosen viewpoints.

• Bottled water is provided during the safari, giving you a simple way to stay hydrated as you travel through the dry reserve environment.

• Private round-trip hotel transfers are included if you choose the Wildlife Safari with Private Hotel Transfers option, adding dedicated transport between your hotel and Hegra Nature Reserve before and after the guided 4x4 experience.

Wrapping up

At the end of the off-road circuit, your guide returns you to the reserve exit where the shared safari finishes.
