The oldest square of Bruges where the city actually started

The Fish Market (Vismarkt) in the center of Bruges is a historic square located near the heart of the city, known for its vibrant atmosphere and connection to Bruges' medieval trade history. The market itself is situated in a charming square, lined with picturesque buildings, and was historically a hub for fishing and seafood trading. While it no longer operates as a traditional market with daily stalls, the area remains an iconic spot in Bruges, with a few fishmongers and seafood vendors still operating nearby.

Tanner's Square (Huidenvettersplein) in Bruges is a historic square that dates back to the medieval period. It was once the center of the city's leatherworking industry, where tanners and craftsmen processed animal hides. The square is named after the "huidenvetters" (tanners) who operated in the area.

The Rosary Quay (Oosterstak) in Bruges is a picturesque canal-side area with historical significance, dating back to the medieval period. It was once a key location for trade and transportation, connecting Bruges to the broader European waterways.

Running through the city center, it is lined with charming medieval buildings, including former warehouses and historic homes. The canal is a popular spot for boat tours, offering visitors a peaceful way to experience Bruges’ beauty from the water.

The Saint-Boniface Bridge, also known as the Bridge of Love— but is that really an accurate name for it? I have a better name in mind.

The Gruuthuse Museum in Bruges is a historic museum housed in a grand 15th-century mansion that once belonged to the wealthy Gruuthuse family. The museum showcases Bruges' rich history, with collections of fine arts, tapestries, medieval weaponry, and decorative objects, offering insights into the city's past as a medieval trading power. Visitors can explore beautifully preserved rooms, elegant courtyards, and the impressive architecture, making it a fascinating stop for anyone interested in Bruges' cultural heritage.

The Church of Our Lady (Onze-Lieve-Vrouwekerk) in Bruges is a stunning Gothic church renowned for its towering spire, which at 122 meters is one of the tallest brick structures in the world. Built between the 12th and 15th centuries, the church houses significant artworks, including Michelangelo's famous sculpture Madonna and Child. On a Nostalgic Tour you even can see a glimps of the Marble sculpture Madonna with Child!

The Saint John’s Hospital (Sint-Janshospitaal) in Bruges is one of the oldest and best-preserved medieval hospitals in Europe. Founded in the 12th century, it originally served as a hospital for the poor and sick.

The almshouses in Bruges, known as "Godshuizen", are historic buildings that once provided shelter and care for the poor and elderly. Dating back to the 14th century, these charming, often picturesque structures were founded by wealthy citizens or religious institutions. Many of them are located near canals and feature peaceful courtyards, creating a serene atmosphere. Today, some almshouses still serve their original purpose, while others have been restored and are open to the public, offering a glimpse into Bruges' social and charitable history.

The street was once a key route connecting the heart of the city to the surrounding areas, and its name is believed to be derived from the old Dutch word "stoof", referring to a heated room or chamber, possibly linked to the heating systems of nearby buildings.

Bruges has a total of 77 chocolate shops, but only 11 are artisanal. We are going to visit one of these artisanal shops, where we'll even get the chance to try a real Belgian truffle.

When I say that in Bruges, beer flows beneath the streets, I mean it literally. The Halve Maan brewery has a pipeline that transports beer underground to the bottling plant.
