3-Hour Alchemy and Mysteries of Prague Castle Walking Tour

Your experience

Explore Prague's alchemical legends and ghostly tales on a 3-hour guided night tour around Prague Castle.

Getting started

Meet your expert English or German-speaking guide at the designated starting point in the Old Town. After a short introduction to Prague's history of alchemy and mysteries, you will set off on foot through the historic streets. The route involves steady walking over roughly three hours, so comfortable shoes are recommended.

What to expect

Old Town Square and Old-New Synagogue area

Begin in the heart of Old Town, where centuries of stories are layered into the streets and façades. Your guide sets the tone with legends linked to Prague's alchemists, astronomers, and restless spirits around Old Town Square and the Old-New Synagogue area.

Features

• See key Old Town landmarks at night, including the square and the surroundings of the Old-New Synagogue, as your guide shares tales of ghosts, rituals, and strange experiments rooted in local folklore.

• Walk with an expert English or German-speaking guide, depending on the option selected, who introduces the main themes of the tour and leads the 3-hour Prague Castle night route.

Mánesův Bridge and Tycho Brahe/Kepler Statue

Continue towards the river and cross Mánesův Bridge, where the panorama of Prague unfolds after dark. Nearby, you encounter the statue of Tycho Brahe and Johannes Kepler, a fitting backdrop for stories about astrology, astronomy, and the blurred line between science and mysticism.

Features

• Take in illuminated views from Mánesův Bridge and stop by the Tycho Brahe/Kepler Statue while hearing how these historical figures fed Prague's reputation as a city of secret knowledge.

• Follow your guide as the walking tour connects these landmarks into a continuous night-time route past multiple Prague sights.

Strahov Monastery and Loreto Church

Climbing towards the Castle District, you pass the exterior of Strahov Monastery and the Loreto Church. The quiet streets and monastery walls set the scene for tales of monks, relics, and the strange events said to have taken place here after dusk.

Features

• Observe the exteriors of Strahov Monastery and Loreto Church under evening light while listening to stories that blend recorded history with legend.

• Stay with your guide throughout this part of the walk, as they pace the group and keep the narrative flowing between each stop.

Černín Palace and Nový Svět

Near Černín Palace, one of Prague's largest Baroque palaces, you step into the narrow lanes of Nový Svět. This quieter corner of the Hradčany area is rich in whispered stories about former residents, unexplained sightings, and curious coincidences.

Features

• Walk through Nový Svět's atmospheric lanes and view Černín Palace from the outside while hearing ghost stories and anecdotes tied to these lesser-known streets.

• Experience another stretch of the continuous walking route, with your guide weaving together local history, myths, and character tales.

Prague Castle exteriors

The route brings you to the exteriors of Prague Castle, where the buildings and courtyards form a dramatic backdrop at night. Without entering the interiors, your guide focuses on legends of alchemy, royal intrigues, and spectral figures associated with the castle complex.

Features

• See Prague Castle's outer areas after dark and hear stories that connect the site to alchemists, mysterious laboratories, and long-standing ghost lore.

• Join this as part of the guided night tour, which is designed as an exterior-focused experience and does not include entry to the castle or other interiors.

Wrapping up

Your tour concludes at Malostranské náměstí, a short walk from Charles Bridge and Old Town, leaving you well placed to continue exploring the city or make your way back through the historic center on your own.
