Nemrut, or Nemrud, is a 2,134-meter-high mountain in southeastern Türkiye, notable for its numerous large statues erected around a structure believed to be a royal tomb dating from the 1st century BC. It is one of the highest peaks in the eastern Taurus Mountains. The mountain is located 40 km north of Kahta, near Adıyaman. In 62 BC, King Antiochus I Theos of Commagene had a mausoleum-temple built on the summit, surrounded by giant statues, 8-9 meters high, of himself, two lions, two eagles, and various Greek, Armenian, and Persian gods such as Heracles-Artagnes-Ares, Zeus-Oromasdes, and Apollo-Mithras-Helios-Hermes.
