The tour focuses on the area of Ryogoku, on the Tokyo's east side. Ryogoku is well-known as the center for the sumo world where a tournament is held three times a year. The itinerary will provide insight to the sport with opportunity to view an actual sized ring as well as a visit to the Sumo Museum on the days it is open. Besides sumo, the area has a rich history with many temples and shrines though a majority of the buildings that once stood were destroyed either by the Great Kanto Earthquake in 1923 or the bombing during World War II. A small but informative exhibition hall tells us the story of what happened during these difficult times and how the city quickly recovered.

This group tour will take you on a scenic run around Tokyo’s famous Imperial Palace, an iconic landmark and the heart of the city’s sightseeing attractions. This tour will not take you inside (because you need to apply in advance), but we will run along the promenade around the Imperial Palace, which is about 5k long. The promenade around the Imperial Palace is like a running mecca for runners in Tokyo. The area around the Imperial Palace is exactly the center of Japan, so there are large commercial facilities, government offices, the National Diet Building, and the prime minister’s official residence.
