The guided tour of Catania begins at Castello Ursino, commissioned by Emperor Frederick II of Swabia on a former Norman fortress; the castle has a square plan with an inner courtyard and four round corner towers. After admiring the remains of ancient Roman baths, you reach the Catania Fish Market, the vibrant heart of the city. From the market, a staircase leads directly to Piazza del Duomo, surrounded by Baroque buildings and dominated by the Elephant Fountain, symbol of Catania.
