Wine Your Way Through the Marais
Visiting the Marais through the perspective of a wine glass provides an entirely different view of this historic neighbourhood. Starting in the Joseph Mignaret park, we discover its hidden vineyard and the medieval history of the Marais. Once home to two kings, the quarter is dotted with the private mansions of the aristocracy who wanted to be close to the king. We cross the Roman road to the East that linked the Bastille to the Louvre, and pause a moment in a medieval alley to talk about life in the middle-ages. We then visit the largest extant section of the Philippe Auguste wall, tracing the wine history of the quarter, and exploring the area where Charles V had his royal residence and vineyard, stopping along the way to taste a sparkling wine. Like many other quarters of the city, the Marais has been home to a number of famous personalities, whose lives we also recount.
