If you’re interested in discovering the artistic essence of Mexico, step with me into a guided journey where architecture, history, and social transformation intertwine. I’m Edgar, certified local guide and I invite you to explore Mexico’s own Gilded Age: the Porfiriato. Together, we’ll walk through opulent mansions, grand palaces, and emblematic landmarks that still preserve the elegance, European eclecticism, and ambition of a dictator. We’ll revisit the final years of a 19th-century regime built on progress and inequality, and trace how those tensions gave rise to a new artistic and architectural identity and helped ignite one of the most influential artistic movements of the 20th century: Mexican Muralism. This is more than a historical walk — it is a journey to understand the aesthetic transformation of Mexico in the 20th century: from dictatorship to cultural renaissance.
