The Jewish neighbourhood of Girona is one of the best preserved in Europe. This district located in the heart of the city is full of ancient remains from its Roman and Medieval past. Known popularly as the "Call", this area was home to 1000 inhabitants during the Middle Ages, making it one of the most important Jewish communities in Spain's history. As you explore the pretty narrow streets of the Jewish Quarter, the hometown of Nahmanides, the Medieval Kabbalistic philosopher, you'll visit the spots where the city's 3 synagogues were located, you will find out all about the customs and traditions of the Jewish people. You'll also visit the Museum of Jewish History to learn about their way of life. Your guide will then lead you around the labyrinthine streets while explaining the history of the Expulsion of the Jews in 1492, an act that ended 600 years of coexistence. We sail along the coast of the Cap de Creus Nature Park, passing by Cala Jóncols, Cap Norfeu, seeing the rock named ‘the Cat,’ and if weather permits we enter the Tamariu cave. Then we pass by the small coves of the Nature Park to reach the point of the Cap de Creus, a rugged, rocky headland rising to 672 m above the Mediterranean Sea, forming a small, hilly peninsula carved by countless chasms that form small coves oriented according to the structure of the masses of slate. The Cap Norfeu is an integral nature reserve, both terrestrial and marine. It forms part of the Cap de Creus Nature Park and is one of the most beautiful places of all the Catalan coast. It has great botanical wealth, the most common trees being pine and holm oak, and it has with numerous species of birds and aquatic animals, seeming to hold a special attraction for whales and dolphins. At Cala Murtra we go down to the catamaran’s viewing pods to admire this marvellous seabed. When everyone has finished viewing, we will anchor in the cove to allow anyone who wants to swim in these turquoise-coloured waters. We will make this 30-minute swim an unforgettable fun experience.
