In the warm and dark lagoon waters lies a natural phenomenon of glowing blue waters alive with activity. The swirling of your hand, every paddle stroke, and the rolling wake off of your kayak all sparkle throughout the darkness. Not only do fish leave trails, dolphins look like torpedoes, and manatees a slow and graceful submarine. Many guests compare the experience to Pandora of “Avatar.” Some even recall the bioluminescence scene in “Life of Pi” as the gentle plankton leave a trickling glow when you hold it in your hands and let it trickle down your arm. Though some may jokingly blame this on NASA runoff, it is actually the biological response of microscopic algae called a dinoflagellate. The perfectly natural and harmless concentration of organisms produces light before your very eyes, often existing in millions per liter of water. Your tour will include a ton of information about these rare and exotic creatures with the most experienced guides in the area

This tour focuses specifically on comb jelly bioluminescence, a rare phenomenon different from Florida’s well-known dinoflagellate glow. Instead of constant sparkle, comb jellies emit soft rainbow flashes as they move — creating a subtle, ethereal light show beneath your clear kayak. Launching from calm, protected waters in Merritt Island, this experience is ideal for both beginners and experienced paddlers. Transparent kayaks paired with carefully balanced LED lighting allow you to clearly observe the jellies and marine life below without overpowering the natural darkness of the lagoon. Your guide shares the science behind bioluminescence and the ecology of the Indian River Lagoon. While wildlife sightings are never guaranteed, guests may encounter fish, rays, dolphins, or manatees in this diverse estuary. With small groups and a peaceful setting, this immersive eco-tour offers a refined way to witness one of Florida’s most fascinating nighttime natural events.

Why clear bottom kayaks? Our continued commitment to maintaining safety within our immersive experiences has led us to these technologically advanced kayaks, a finely crafted and mesmerizing new model of kayak. The Innovex material is not glass, but a highly durable plastic composite, like the overhead cock pits of fighter jets. The clear-bottom kayak does not simply lay a window panel under you, but rather a fully-formed inlay of Innovex allows water (and so bioluminescence) to rise around you, preserving the full experience without compromising paddler safety.

Typical species to expect include Ibis, herons, egrets, pelicans, cormorants, and roseate spoonbills, all set to the backdrop of rocket launch pads and iconic NASA landscape. Launch into your escape.

This tour explores the Indian River Lagoon, one of North America’s most ecologically diverse estuaries. Paddling in a clear kayak or on a paddleboard offers a rare vantage point to observe dolphins, manatees (seasonal), stingrays, fish, and other marine life around and beneath you. The lagoon supports thousands of species, making every outing a dynamic wildlife experience. While sightings are never guaranteed, dolphins are frequently seen here and manatees are commonly spotted during seasonal movements. Unlike motorized tours, this small-group paddle allows for a quieter, more natural wildlife encounter. Calm waters make it beginner-friendly, and small children can ride with an adult on our larger clear kayaks or stable paddleboards. This close-to-the-water perspective and guided interpretation create one of the most immersive ways to experience Florida’s coastal ecosystem.
