The name refers to Chief Moremi of the BaTawan tribe. Moremi is the only protected area of the Okavango Delta. It holds tremendous scientific, environmental and conservation importance. It ranks as one of the most beautiful reserves in Africa, possibly in the world. Situated in the central and eastern areas of the Okavango Delta, the reserve includes the Moremi Tongue and Chiefs Island, boasting one of the richest and most diverse ecosystems on the continent. The day trip to Moremi is the quickest way to catch a glimpse of what this remarkable reserve has to offer when you do not have enough time to spend the night. Departing from Maun early in the morning, you will be picked up from your place of accommodation in Maun before heading to Moremi Game Reserve to explore the diversity of this scenic and wildlife-rich area. We will proceed to Black Pools and Xini Area. These areas are in the south western part of Moremi. With seasonal and permanent swamp landscape, these two areas are home to a bounty of buffalo herds, elephant, cheetah, African wild dog and good lion prides, to name a few. The wildlife highlights differ from day-to-day and amongst such are leopard, lion, African wild dog, hyena, kudu, waterbuck, giraffe, zebra, elephant, buffalo, rhino and impala – to name a few. Birdlife is quite amazing in the area with birds such as secretary bird, hornbill, lapwing, vulture, African jacana, African fish eagle, hamerkop, and many more.

It has a diversity of habitats, combining acacia forests and mophane woodlands with floodplains and lagoons. Our guides will take you to the park’s most beautiful areas, such as Third Bridge, Bodumatau, and Dead Tree Island. The game is plentiful in these areas. Sightings include elephants, buffalo, giraffe, lions, hyenas, jackals, and many different antelopes, including the red lechwe and the shy sitatunga, a web-footed antelope perfectly adapted to life in the swamps. Wild dogs, whose numbers are rapidly dwindling elsewhere, are regularly sighted in the Moremi Game Reserve.

Sense of Nature Safaris runs all its mokoro trips through the Okavango Kopano Mokoro Community Trust (OKMCT) who control the use of a large area of the delta and who set the guide and community fees for safari activities. This community use this part of the delta for fishing, reed cutting and the harvesting of water lily bulbs. The mokoro is an integral part of these activities. This tour commences and ends in Maun. This activity is conducted by local mokoro community guides. Your qualified guide will take you in a mokoro (the traditional aquatic mode of transport, dugout canoe) through the water channels of the delta while you relax and enjoy listening to bird calls. You will also go for a guided bush walk on an island in the delta where you may encounter wildlife at ground level. The bird-life in the delta is spectacular. A variety of game may be spotted in this pristine wilderness area, including elephant, giraffe, kudu, impala, zebra, hippo and crocodile – to name a few.
