The Salt Mine is located very close to Cracow in the nearby city of Wieliczka. The story of salt in this place has begun almost 5000 years ago. However, the mine started to grow deeper since the end of the 12 century. Its nine levels go down to 327 meters (357 yards) and the total length of corridors exceeds 3 km (1.86 miles). Salt Mine Wieliczka was listed on the first UNESCO World Heritage List. Wieliczka Salt Mine is one of the largest and oldest salt mines in the world. A guide shows you the way through a maze of tunnels, chambers, and stairways built over eight centuries.

Zakopane is a town located about 100 km on the south from Krakow. This is the place located at the foot of Tatra Mountains. Zakopane is called winter capital of Poland. A must visit is Gubałówka hill (height 1126 m) where to the top you can go by a funicular with some breathtaking views on the Tatra Mountains. The historic Salt Mine is located about 10 km from Krakow and is on the first UNESCO World Heritage List (1978). The current mine was established ad the turn off 18 and 19 century (though mining history reaches antiquity here). The tourist route goes through the most interesting places in the mine that consists of 22 chambers which are connected by salt pathways of lenght about 3 km. Chambers are located at depth 64 to 135 meters underground.
