Gross Rosen concentration camp, a grim chapter from World War II, emerged as a subcamp of Sachsenhausen near Berlin. Established in August 1940, it swiftly gained notoriety as one of the harshest in the German Third Reich. The first prisoners endured grueling 12-hour shifts in the local granite quarry, receiving meager rations and minimal medical aid. Of the 125,000 inmates, including Jews, Poles, and citizens of the Soviet Union, an estimated 40,000 fell victim to the brutal conditions during its existence. This haunting history serves as a solemn reminder of the atrocities witnessed within the camp's confines.

Take an exciting day tour from Wroclaw to explore Dresden- one of the most beautiful German cities. For centuries Dresden was the capital of an independent state of Saxony, which under the Wettin dynasty was a flourishing centre of culture, art and architecture. The city was considered the pearl of European baroque with numerous churches, palaces and townsmen’s houses contributing to its unique atmosphere. The controversial ally bombing at the end of the War World II, despite thousands of deaths and great urban substance damage, did not affect Dresdner Old Town entirely - today a powerful symbol of German revival and reconstruction.

If you appreciate unique architecture, you must visit one of the gems of the Opolskie Region—Moszna Castle, which is conveniently located not far from Wroclaw. Fans of Walt Disney or Harry Potter will find it especially enchanting, as it resembles Hogwarts or a castle from a fairy tale. Originally built in the 18th century as a Baroque palace, Moszna Castle underwent significant transformations after a fire in 1896. The then-residents, the Tiele-Winckler family, restored and reshaped it, adding the eastern part in neo-Gothic style and the west wing in Neo-Renaissance style. The castle boasts 99 towers and 365 rooms, each telling its own story. Remarkably, it was spared from destruction during World War II, preserving its historical and architectural integrity for visitors to enjoy today.

We will explore the Medieval history of the city, including Gothic churches, and historical artifacts. You will hear stories about the backstabbing families that ruled the city, feuding dukes and bishops, and interesting legends that have shaped our city. Upon arriving at the Cathedral of St. John the Baptist we will learn about its thousand years of history, the Catholic's fight against pagan traditions, and the destruction it has sustained throughout the centuries. We will then take a walk inside the cathedral, where I will tell you about the most magnificent relics it possesses. As we make our way further into the church, we will visit the most well preserved parts: beautifully decorated chapels that have survived since the 17th century.
