In July 2024, a massive wildfire ripped through Jasper National Park, ravaging over 33,000 hectares of land. A year later, the 55-million-year-old land, without its canopy of leaves, reveals recovering flora, returning wildlife and a healthy future. On Wildfire Peak-Nic, you will be hiking 4 KM through the severely impacted site of the Complex Wildfire to one of Jasper’s prominent peaks. As your guide leads you through new growth forest emerging from the ash, you will learn to identify various species of plants, wildflowers and mushrooms, learn about history, geology, forestry, wildfires and observe wildlife from a safe distance. This two hour round trip (~one hour on the water ) is our most popular trip, and has the longest season, early May to late September. Your adventure begins with a 10 minute float followed by Class II rapids. Class II is an excellent introduction to white water as it offers a mix of splashy thrills, and calm floats. This is a classic on the Icefields Parkway - travel the full tongue of the Athabasca glacier! Ideal for guests wanting to experience a real sense of the isolation and ruggedness of the glacier, this tour showcases everything included in the half-day experience, plus a journey to the icefall at the head of the valley.
