We begin our journey by descending 200 meters into the heart of the earth at the largest Salt Mine in Europe. This is an underground cathedral of salt covering 8 hectares — the equivalent of 16 football pitches, with chambers reach heights of over 50 meters. The landscape feels like another planet. After resurfacing, we head to the rolling hills of wine region for a gourmet lunch at a restaurant that formerly served as Nicolae Ceaușescu’s private hunting lodge. This location offers a glimpse into the exclusive lifestyle of Romania’s former communist leader. Our final chapter takes us to the serene waters of Snagov Lake. A short bridge crossing brings us to a hidden island monastery with a dark reputation. Within the walls of this 15th-century church lies the Tomb of Vlad the Impaler, the ruthless voivode who inspired the legend of Dracula. Discover the beauty of Romanian Christmas from traditions to tasting food and drinks that we cook especially for holidays. Your local guide will take you at the most important Christmas Market in the city and at the same time you can hear stories about how we celebrate Christmas, interesting, but also weird traditions for this period of the year and also changes that appeared in communist Romania. Of course, you will not miss the decorations on the main boulevards. At the fairs, the guide will explain which are the traditional souvenirs and also what we eat for our Christmas (such a long list that it will be difficult to remember). One of the highlights of the tour is the story of Christmas during communist times, when Santa Claus was illegal and abusively replaced by another character.

Romanian cuisine is a diverse blend of different dishes from several traditions with which it has come into contact, but it also maintains its own character. It has been greatly influenced by Ottoman cuisine, while it also includes influences from the cuisines of other neighbours, such as Germans, Serbs, Bulgarians and Hungarians. Quite different types of dishes are sometimes included under a generic term; for example, the category 'ciorbă' includes a wide range of soups with a characteristic sour taste. These may be meat and vegetable soups, tripe and calf foot soups, or fish soups, all of which are soured by lemon juice, sauerkraut juice, vinegar, or traditional borş. The category 'ţuică' or 'palinca' (traditional plum brandy) is a a strong alcoholic spirit in Romania, it can also be made of pears, apples or apricots.
