Lovech – the old town and Varosha quarter – where are located the ethnographic complex and the Vasil Levski house museum. Lovech is known as the center of the Internal Revolutionary Organization of the revolutionary Vasil Levski in his struggle for liberation from Ottoman rule. In the highest part of the old town are the remains of the Hisarya fortress. Near the fortress is the monument to Vasil Levski. The covered bridge over the Osam River is the symbol of Lovech. The bridge connects the old and new parts of the city. It was built in 1872-1874 by the builder Kolyu Ficheto, and today it houses numerous shops where you can buy souvenirs. Stratesh Hill is another popular place for walks and is home to the Lovech Zoo. Krushuski Waterfalls - one of the most attractive landmarks of the country. Skopje is the capital and largest city of North Macedonia. It is the country's political, cultural, economic, and academic center. The territory of Skopje has been inhabited since at least 4000 BC; remains of Neolithic settlements have been found within the old Kale Fortress that overlooks the modern city centre. Originally a Paeonian city, Skopje became the capital of Dardania in the second century BC. On the eve of the 1st century AD, the settlement was seized by the Romans and became a military camp. When the Roman Empire was divided into eastern and western halves in 395 AD, Skopje came under Byzantine rule from Constantinople. During much of the early medieval period, the town was contested between the Byzantines and the Bulgarian Empire, whose capital it was between 972 and 992.
