Next, we'll visit Skógafoss, another impressive and well known waterfall with a 60 meters drop that creates stunning rainbows during sunny days. After that, we'll head to the Black Sand Beach, where you can walk on the black volcanic sand and its basalt columns, caves, and Reynisdrangar, that are basalt sea stacks that rise from the ocean just off the shore. The highlight of the tour will be at Sólheimajökull, an outlet glacier where we'll be doing a guided glacier hiking and ice climbing experience. Embark on an extraordinary journey through the Silver Circle! We kick off with a scenic drive into the majestic Hvalfjördur, a sprawling 30-kilometer fjord brimming with nature's wonders and captivating history. The drive from Reykjavik to the fjord takes about 1 hour. Once we get to the fjord, we will drive along it making a few stops for pictures. After another 1 hour drive, we will reach Deildartunguhver, one of Europe's largest hot spring, located right next to Krauma spa, where you can opt to take a relaxing bath. We then head to Reykholt, an ancient town steeped in medieval Icelandic manuscript studies. Another short drive will take us to the spellbinding Hraunfossar and Barnafoss waterfalls. We then drive for about 1 hour to the town of Borgarnes, with its interesting Settlement Museum, revealing the tales of Iceland's first Viking settlers. The main island, Heimaey, was almost destroyed by a volcanic eruption in 1973, resulting in a full town evacuation. From here, you can see the lava and new section of the island that was created in 1973. We will also take the time to make the short hike to the top of Eldfell volcanic crater, the source of this devastating eruption. The Westman Islands is home to some of our favorite restaurants. We'll have lunch at GOTT (or equivalent), whose cozy and delightful restaurant uses only fresh, authentic ingredients, with lunch included in the tour price. After lunch, we have more time to explore the islands. With your Hidden Iceland guide, you can head to the southern side of Heimaey to explore the cliffs, farms and go on a short walk in the search of puffins. In summer, the Westman Islands is one of the best places in Iceland to view Puffins.
