On this day trip, you will hike on the Marangu Route up to Mandara Hut for lunch. You will NOT reach the summit. All short treks are offered on a private basis, and you can start on any day of the year. The short treks are geared for people who like to hike but reaching the summit isn’t a “must do”, and allow one to experience the excitement of hiking on the highest peak on the African continent. All trekking inside of the Tanzania National Park require the services of a certified Kilimanjaro guide, and the Marangu route is the only route where short treks are allowed.

Lake Chala is a unique caldera lake, and is thought to be the deepest inland body of water in Africa. This lake is fed by underground springs from Mt. Kilimanjaro. The lake has a great diversity of life. From lush lake shore forest to stunning volcanic savannah; from river beds marvelously carved through ancient rock, to thick bush or open ‘mbuga’. Walking at Lake Chala is a magical experience that will put you back in touch with nature. Chala has a huge variety of amazing trees, grasses and plants; some are unique to the area. According to the time of year there are hundreds of species of butterflies and birds, including spectacular birds of prey. The African Fish Eagle, with its hunting techniques, Verreaux’s Eagle, Augur Buzzards and many other species of birds can be seen around the crater walls. Wild mammals do varies from monkeys to baboons again from dik-dik to kudu, to elephant. Chala is an untouched part of a truly ancient land and a must visit place.

This territory has the perfect mixture of climate and soil to produce some of the best coffee in Africa. While at the village you will get to explore the lives of the Chagga people and do coffee tours, harvest, roast, and grind and make a cup of coffee. Normally we ask our clients to try roasting and preparing a fresh cup of coffee the Chagga way. After a delightful coffee tour you will head to the waterfalls passing through coffee and banana plantations. Along the way your guide will teach you about local plants and how they are used for food and traditional medicine and how they make local brew, as well as giving you more insight into the local Chagga culture. You will have your packed lunch and spend the rest of the afternoon at the waterfalls. The mountain waters falls straight down in a shimmering curtain to splash in the rippling pool where you can float, take a swim and chill out – literally, as these are pure mountain waters and not yet heated by the sun.

Make sure you have an early (and good!) breakfast because we leave market town Moshi at 8:00 am sharp for the hour’s drive to Arusha National Park. Once you arrive, you’ll stretch your legs on an out-of-this-world walking safari, accompanied by a ranger who will guide you through rainforest up to a sparkling waterfall where you’ll be able to spot black and white colobus monkeys going about their day. After a tasty lunch you’ll hop in the Land Cruiser for a game drive that will take you through a wider scope of the park, including the Lakes of Momella and the Ngurduto Crater, and you’ll most likely spot buffalo, waterbuck, giraffe, warthogs, zebra and gazelle as well as a host of different bird species. If you’re lucky you’ll catch a glimpse of the shy leopard or elephant. Don’t forget your camera! After the drive, you’ll be driven back to Moshi.

Only one or two days on the mountain will be enough to give you a full picture of what it takes to be part of a Kilimanjaro trekking expedition. On these hikes, you will reach the lower camps of Kilimanjaro, delve into pristine tropical wilderness, and see breathtaking landscapes around. Arusha National Park is often overlooked by travelers rushing to the more famous sights of the Ngorongoro Crater and Serengeti. However, with a little time, Arusha National Park offers some lovely walking in the foothills of Mount Meru and canoeing on the Momela Lakes, plus gentle game drives. If you have the time it is well worth a day or two. There are a range of activities to do in Arusha National Park. This includes walking safaris which are always accompanied by a ranger and last for a maximum of four hours, during which you would stop for a break at one of the park's lovely picnic sites. You can also explore the far reaches of the park by vehicle, taking in some of the lovely views and keeping an eye out for wildlife. Another great activity here and one not found in other safari parks in Tanzania, is a canoeing safari which allows you to explore the Momela Lakes.

Embark on the Mount Kilimanjaro Day Hike via the Machame Route, a thrilling full-day adventure for those eager to experience Africa’s tallest peak. The day begins with an early morning pickup from Arusha at 7:00 AM or Moshi at 8:30 AM, followed by a scenic drive to Machame Gate (1,640m) for park registration and a warm welcome from your expert guides and porters. The trek winds through enchanting rainforest alive with playful monkeys, colorful birds, and towering ferns, gradually ascending to Machame Camp (3,000m), with short breaks to admire waterfalls and viewpoints.
