You will be able to see all of our main fauna, such as koalas and kangaroos, and some very unique species such as platypus. The sanctuary is located at the base of the Great dividing range mountains and surrounded by native vegetation. This creates a true native environment for the animals and allows you to learn about the flora. The Puffing Billy historic stream train ride is situated in the Dandenong Mountains, about a 45 minute drive from the sanctuary. Here, you will start a steam train adventure that winds through pristine mountain ranges, temperate rainforest and fern gullies. Our first hike of the day is a moderate 4.2km return hike that weaves us through fascinating rock formations, including the Grand Canyon and Silent Street, and The Pinnacle, the most iconic destinations in the park. This famous jagged cliff face is quite the sight, so take as long as you need to capture the perfect picture and marvel at the awe-inspiring views. After returning from this hike, we head into Halls Gap for a delicious lunch at one of our favourite local cafes before driving up to MacKenzie Falls. This short 2km walk is a steep trail, but we promise the incredible views of Victoria’s largest and most beautiful waterfall is 100% worth it. Our next stop is the picturesque Boroka Lookout. Take in vistas of Lake Bellfield and Mt William mountain ranges before we return to the delightful local village of Halls Gap for optional ice cream.
